Temporary relief efforts in Bagong Silangan

As the Philippines and many other countries of Southeast Asia continue to battle typhoons and storms over the past couple of weeks, vulnerable communities, some living along the coast and in structurally weak informal housing, have been especially hard hit. Floods and strong winds have destroyed their homes, leaving them stranded and in urgent need of relief supplies. This comes at an especially difficult time as the Philippines continues to deal with the COVID-19 crisis.

Typhoons and floods have left many families stranded, but relief efforts are ongoing.

Fortunately, no deaths or missing persons have been reported, and the communities are being relocated to temporary shelters in the meantime. They are strong and doing what they can to tide through this period together.

A Call for Your Help

And we want to help them recover from this crisis! We are working closely with our friends in the Bagong Silangan Youth Federation (BSYF) and the General Nakar Tribal Development Center (TCD) to purchase supplies (food, clothing, water, milk powder, diapers, anti-tetanus and fever medicine — anything that they need in this time), for distribution to affected communities.

While more needs to be done for long-term rebuilding efforts, we want to focus on providing immediate relief in this period, particularly as the situation remains uncertain in the next few weeks. More typhoons are set to hit the Philippines in the next few months.

This is how your donations will be used:

Funds will be given to our partner organisations in the Philippines who are working directly on the field and with the affected communities.

BYSF will be responsible for the packing and distribution of supplies to the urban poor communities in Bagong Silangan. TCD will do the same for the indigenous communities in General Nakar.

We hope you will give generously, and share the word with your friends! This is an especially difficult time for many people around the region and the world, but environmental disasters and the COVID-19 crisis have certainly affected these communities disproportionately. Our contributions will give a much-needed boost to their rebuilding efforts and help them tide through this period.

Thank you very much for your time!

If you would like to help, donate at:

Any amount would go a long way! Share this with your friends and family too.

If everyone in a 4-person family donated SGD5, SGD20 (~720 pesos) will help buy fresh food for a family to last 2 days!

out of SGD10,000 goal

Update: while we continue fundraising in Singapore, our friends in Korea have raised over 42,000 pesos which will help the communities tide through the first week or so of December.
